Benjamin totters to the side and slumps heavily against the wall of the corridor, lips moving soundlessly. It takes two long minutes before he realises that he has discharged his weapon - he absently breaks open the shotgun and looks about him at his fellows. "Did - did you see? Did you feel ...?"

Daniel moves his hands away and looks at the others. "Did you see her? I think she went downstairs.". YOU JUST GOT SHOT AT. 1/13 your health was lost! Owies! Granted, you also had just seen something and are not in the right state of mind, and everyone else went with it, so...

Everyone is now in either the second floor central hallway (Daniel, David, Benjamin), or downstairs in the Foyer (Roger, Henry).
Or in Exeter proper (Charles).
The time is
12 : 40 PM

HENRY Roger, calm down. Here, take a swig of this. (Lends Roger his flask of liquid courage.) Now, focus here. There's no way that you could have seen the same thing that the guys upstairs... probably did, at the same time. There's a logical explaination for this, it was probably dust and a trick of light; this place is suffocatingly dark enough for that. It was just an illusion. But what wasn't an illusion was the unmistakable sound of gunfire and the loss of the security deposit on this place. (Runs his hands through his hair.) I hope that it was one of our guys who had the gun, but even then I would hope against it. If it truly was an apparation, what good would a gun do? Nothing. If it were transients like I claimed, then it would lead to murder, and we should have no involvement in that part. Roger, we need to be careful here, so follow my lead. (Yells upstairs.) Is everyone alright? Let's regroup down here.

Just so everyone knows, it wasn't all simultaneous as B:L posits. Daniel, then Benjamin, David, and finally Obbi. Each saw something, not necessarily the same thing or the same time-frame or even the same interpretation.

Roger nods through Henry's rationalization of the incident, attempting to collect his thoughts. He took a fair swing of Henry's flask, and hands it back.
Illusion. That didn't happen, that wasn't real. Mind was playing tricks. Roger held onto those thoughts has he picked himself up and followed Henry towards the stairs.
He wanted to call out for the others along with Henry, but voice seemed to have been lost.

After the men have rested a few minutes in the second floor hallway, David turns to Benjamin. "Could you give me a hand with the rest of the stairs? I was so shaken up, I've been leaning on poor Daniel here, who might need assistance as much as I do."

"Of course, of course," Ben replied. After taking a couple of shaky breaths, he broke open the shotgun and removed the spent cartridges, inserted a new brace but left the weapon broken as he offered his other arm to David.

Daniel caught his breath and checked himself over, nothing major done, just a bit beat up from the stray pellets.
"Lets get down there and see if the others are alright." Daniel walked down the stairs to the first floor. "You two alright down here?"

David winces as he arrives at the first floor with Benjamin's aid. Under the assumption of an affirmative response to Daniel's query, he addresses the other men. "I don't know about the rest of you, but I could go for a stiff drink."

(Everyone is gathered on the first floor by the stairs.)
HENRY (He stares at them, dumbstruck.) What the bloody hell just happened? You all look like you've seen a... well, you all look terrible. And, is that blood!? Here, take a seat, we'll open the shutters to let some light and air in. Pass this around. (He hands his flask to be passed around to anyone wanting it.) Now, one by one, tell me what happened. Was that really a gunshot?

Daniel takes a drink and passes it on. "Yes Henry, it was a shot. Just don't ask what we saw because I'm not even sure."
Daniel rummages through the supplies looking for a first aid kit. During his search, the diary slips from his pocket and falls to the ground. Daniel picks it up and turns and hands it to Henry. "From all the excitement I forgot I found this upstairs."

(Oats you're like an hour away or so, it's only 12:40. Where did Squash put that timeline?)HENRY (Takes the diary and looks it over.) Hm, it seems these records shed some light on what's happening, but we're lacking the manpower to go over them in a timely manner. Now, the shot. Did someone upstairs shoot at you? If so, we should definitely get out of here as soon as possible. I expected there to be transients, but if they're armed then it is beyond our capabilities, and certainly not part of our contract.

Roger seemed to have been unnerved by the claims of the other men. So, that wasn't his mind playing tricks? Everybody saw something?
Maybe, yeah, it's still a trick. Just the person here pulling some illusions on us to get us out of the house. But who?
Hans and his wife made note that they stopped cleaning the house ever since they came into contact with the ghost, something Roger got a face full of. Could it be them creating a backstory, when they're the ones pulling these tricks?
Can't put it past those Germans, thought Roger.
Calming himself down allowed him to renew conversation with the others in regards to this situation.
"Not sure what you folks saw, but I saw a ghost that met the description of what Han's and his wife was scared silly of. I couldn't punch it, and it gave me quite a chill as it flew through me. Not sure who's behind this, but they're good. That felt about as real as it could ever be."

HENRY (Glances at Benjamin nervously.) Benjamin, you say? What was he doing shooting at you, much less carrying something like that when we're hunting for ghosts? (Whispers to Daniel.) Are you sure we can trust him? Oh, when the dumbwaiter went down earlier, we couldn't find anyone in the kitchen. There is a locked door there though, do you still happen to have the key ring? May I borrow it for a moment? ROGER Not sure what you folks saw, but I saw a ghost that met the description of what Han's and his wife was scared silly of. I couldn't punch it, and it gave me quite a chill as it flew through me. Not sure who's behind this, but they're good. That felt about as real as it could ever be. HENRY Well, you seem sure about what you saw, but the others don't appear to be. I'm no psychologist, but I would've chalked it up to mass hysteria if the stories matched. Since they don't, something else must be going on. Which way did she go when you last saw her?

"I couldn't tell where that thing shot off too, it dove from the balcony up above and went straight through me."
Roger shivered, recalling the experience so soon was not something he wanted to do. It was a trick. The intruder is playing tricks. That is what Roger wills himself to believe.
"As much as I hate to say it, I think the reason why that happened was because you guys were getting close to the source of this supposed Haunting. We have to get back up there, as quick as we can. It's damn thick to charge right now though, or else we'll just hurt ourselves again. Any ideas?"

We have to get back up there, as quick as we can. David shakes his head at Roger's words. "What's the rush? Why don't we get Daniel and myself patched up, and rest for a bit while we wait for our sixth member to arrive? Maybe his research will have given him some insight into the mysteries we've found." I don't see the need to make Oats wait while we play another hour at less than full capacity.

"I couldn't tell where that thing shot off too, it dove from the balcony up above and went straight through me." Roger shivered, recalling the experience so soon was not something he wanted to do. It was a trick. The intruder is playing tricks. That is what Roger wills himself to believe. Looking upwards at the part of the balcony Roger indicated, now highlighted with the electric torches, it becomes readily apparent that a very poor repair job had been performed on the wood of that part of the balcony. A closer inspection (taking place on the second floor) would be needed to confirm this, but the jagged nails haphazardly used to brace the balcony and the shock of unstained cracked wood jammed back together would indicate an amateur job at best. What's the decision to do now?
The current suggested choices are:
1) Charge up to the third floor
2) Open that door in the kitchen
3) Wait for Charles / Oats (where?). Note, in-character you expect to go back to town pick him up by 5PM, not earlier.
So if you want to pend for Charles, you need to dole out some lengthy tasks to everyone.
4) Read the paperwork (not much has been done). You have several documents accumulated including the Journeeys, the Journal from the 3rd floor, Aaron's Journal (B:L was reading it), and the business documents (Roger was reading them). You can either read them here or elsewhere.
5) First Aid (who tries to help who?)
6) Check out that balcony
7) Whatever else you'd like to do.

HENRY (Takes the keys.) Alright, Daniel, David, Benjamin, open some shutters and get some light and rest. Make sure he's patched up. Roger, come with me. I think we've got unfinished business in the kitchen. (Gets out his hankerchief for the door handle.)

As Daniel, David and Benjamin decide which shutters to open, and where (or even if?) to take a rest, Roger and Henry head straight into the kitchen, right to the shut door. Henry jiggles the keys, selecting an enterprising brass one to match the tarnished knob. *click*Cold, stale air sloughs up from the unlit stairs leading down to the dark basement. It is now 12 : 45 PM
