I'm going to run a play-by-post Call of Cthulhu. IRC is too hard for me to play through.
You do not need to know anything about Call of Cthulhu or H.P. Lovecraft or the Call of Cthulhu RPG to participate.
The game will take place in the 1920's, likely in Massachusetts. I will take all comers. Sign-ups end Wednesday or when I get 6 players.
- - - -
When Signing Up 1 - post to sign up
2 - note (or briefly describe) any Call of Cthulhu RPG adventures you've read or played trough, or any you might happen to own.
3 - note the type of character you'd like to play as. Essentially you will name a profession that would exist in the 1920's. Take care to be careful to make the profession mesh properly with other prior sign-ups and be compatible/plausible working with a group.

Oh, oh God! This is one of those D20 kind of things people talk about, right?
Shit, this is my moment! This could be my style!
Fuck, fuck, uh, !Sign up as uh...aahhh...Taxi Drivers spoke English back in 1920, right?

There was a D20 system version of Call of Cthulhu, but if we are going to use a system we'll either use BRP or a custom derivative of MEGS.
Probably BRP, unless I somehow get and read a copy of "Trail of Cthulhu" before we start, then we'll try those rules.

!Sign up, if you'll have me, as a small-town journalist who has been tracking down hints and reports that just don't make any rational sense.
I've purchased and browsed through COC: 6th Edition and Shadows of Yog-Sothoth, though I can't really recall any details from either.

Making logical pre-game connections with and especially BETWEEN your character concepts (relatives, friends, more-than-acquaintances) also helps your Game Master (or rather, Keeper if we're playing Call of Cthulhu) avoid the "you're all in a bar" syndrome.

And not to discourage the taxi driver/farm boy/journalist types out there because it's not like I can't craft an adventure to drag you together and take advantage of your special abilities, but it might be helpful to have some characters who are highly educated.

Smarter than a quick witted Journalist? Damn!
Alright, about about a Astrologer, tryin' to create a connection between the weirdness of the town and the stars?!
Also I have no experience with the 'you're all in a bar' syndrome, so I have no qualms against it D:

Would I be required to go requisition some books for this or are the open source-esque now or...?

Read that.
Didn't know if I'd need ta get the books or not.
Question: Does my profession need to be terribly common?
'cause if I get in on this, I'm thinkin' I'll be an English professor.

RULES
No knowledge of game rules or background will be needed, other than the setting being approximately 1925, Massachusetts, United States (4-ish years prior to The Great Depression).
You'll get to create your own character background based on or around this time. I'll get you a template to fill out. No dice rolling required.
Then I'll slot you some points to spend (and spending restrictions) on blatantly self-defining attributes. Then I'll do the same for your character's skills.
We should be set to play for the end of next week if all goes to plan.

I've played a looot of CoC. Not sure if I can invest the time for a proper PBP game though, especially when limited by my timezone. Don't wanna hold you guys up. (Or forget about the boards again and screw y'all over.)
