PM - WILDCAT / OBBI
So far, approximately twenty minutes of research into the myriad of business records has yielded nothing much of note. The papers are presenting a fairly uninteresting history of the family businesses over the years, and contain many receipts, stubs, and shipping bills.
More details will be presented later, but so far nothing that sparks any intuitive leaps.
PM - B:L
Of note, this particular journal was kept by Aaron Dubois until he departed to fight in the Civil War. Nothing of note has been discovered so far, but there are many references pertaining to business matters and civic interests in Exeter. Aaron was apparently very politically involved.
PM - Embarkation
Diary of Beatrice Dubois
This diary, started in 1885, was obviously kept by an older, potentially unhinged woman named Beatrice. Among the ramblings about missing her late husband Aaron, and putting up with her whore of a daughter Virginia, her various aches and pains, so far there is little of note. Many of the half-written pages are decorated with intricate looping doodles around the edges. It should take another half hour or so to read through it fully.
PM - Funky
You will have to forgive me - I left some notes at work, so the last names are missing.
? represents a value I will fill in tomorrow. ____ represents a truly missing value.
The family tree in the front of the family bible can be summarized as follows:
Erich Dubois (1762 - ____) was married to Lydia ? (1765 - 1793) They begat Jonathan (1787 - ____) who married Elanor ? (1794 - ____) They begat David ? (1803 - ____) who married Mary ? (1813 - ____) They begat Sarah (1828 - ____) and Allen (1832 - ____)
Erich Dubois (1762 - ____) remarried to Elizabeth ? (1782 - 1812) They begat Henry W. ? Dubois (1802 - ____) and Brandon H. Dubois (1807 - ____) Henry married Priscilla ? (1804 - ____) They begat Aaron (1827 - ____) who married Beatrice ? (1832 - ____)
The family tree ends.
The following is the text of the handwritten letter that was folded into an opened envelope and kept in the diary.
My dearest Mother and Father,
Please try to understand what I am about to do and remember me in your prayers. I know God has written that it is wrong, but I have been assured by a voice from another world that death in this world will be followed by rebirth in another, more glorious and beautiful than can be imagined. I have made the decision to join this voice in the other world.
I have never told anyone about this voice for fear that the family would think me mad, but I have been "talking" with it since I was but a little girl. I first heard the voice while in the sitting room and it came to me all of a sudden and I was scared at first. But later I heard it again, calling my name, and this time I answered; not with my voice, but somehow just by thinking what I wanted to say. This voice has told me many things over the time I have spent in its company and he has now invited me to join him. The time has come for me to leave this mundane existence.
Tell Aaron I am sorry I won’t see him for a while and give my love to the rest of the family.
Your loving daughter,
Elizabeth Dubois

____ represents a missing value.
The Dubois family tree at the front of the family bible branches left and right, starting from Erich Dubois, who apparently remarried at some point.
The left branch reads as follows:
Erich Dubois (1762 - ____) was married to Lydia Bishop Kent (1765 - 1793) They begat Jonathan Dubois (1787 - ____) who married Elanor Douglas (1794 - ____) They begat David Dubois (1803 - ____) who married Mary Closson (1813 - ____) They begat Sarah Dubois (1828 - ____) and Allen Closson Dubois (1832 - ____)
The right branch reads as follows:
Erich Dubois (1762 - ____) married Elizabeth Colsby (1782 - 1812) They begat Henry Wadsworth Dubois (1802 - ____) and Brandon Hewitt Dubois (1807 - ____) Henry married Priscilla Dudley (1804 - ____) They begat Aaron Dubois (1827 - ____) and Elizabeth Dubois (1832 - ____) Aaron married Beatrice Jones (1832 - ____)
The family tree ends.

Funky / David with a roll of 23 (durax would have rolled a 20) and Phil/Religion of 40 could make it work. I'll give him a yellow asterisk on the skill if David examines the symbols. Charles / Oats could recognize it without a check, but I'd prefer to go the David route if possible.

Ever since I knew everyone was going down to the foyer to get shovels and chat etc... I figured this would be a good time to kill everyone with the foyer chandelier.
I'm going to make 5d100 rolls for each player, and supplement with 2d8 rolls, regardless. I will check numbers after.

POST TO B:L ABOUT THE PAINTINGSSee subject line, read thread, then click. Coming from a cultured background with exposure to all sorts of arts, Henry does have some acumen with paintings, and in fact, can recognize them for what they are and their worth. At times. This happens to be one of those times. One painting is of peasants, giving homage to what look to be some form of constables. The other is a beautiful scene of what is, unfortunately, a peasant funeral. The paintings, and the signatures confirm it, are Brueghel. Pieter Brueghel was a 16th century Flemish painter, and you were introduced to his work through one of your directors, Nicholas Marque, who is a collector. He educated you on the topic, and you took a bit of interest in this Renaissance painter's work. Of some morbid interest, his son, Pieter the Younger, later came to be renowned for his terrifying depiction of Stygian scenes. THESE TWO SIMPLE PAINTINGS OF PEASANTS SIMPLY DOING THEIR THING ARE COMPLETELY PREVIOUSLY UNIDENTIFIED!!!!!!!! They would bring a large sum if auctioned. You reason that Maurice has no idea.

Aaron Diary Clue 1
In a very early entry, Aaron describes how his cousin died. Aaron is obviously remorseful wishing that he had waited and figured a way to turn the matter over to the authorities. He also describes how he covered the death to make it look like Allen had accidentally shot himself in the stomach.
1863
Today I took a man's life, my own flesh and blood, and though it was in self-defense, I am in shock. We told the authorities Allen was cleaning his gun, but I need to write this down to feel some modicum of absolution, though the specter of his dementia will forever haunt me. I confronted Allen about what he had done to those people, and to my father, here in my very study. We argued for some time, and it became heated. Allen, that sick man, brought a small pistol with him, hidden under his shirt. He drew it on me and I leaped on him and in the struggle, the gun discharged striking him in the stomach. Allen dropped the gun and staggered from my study. Bleeding profusely, he died before I could reach his side. I am not certain how much longer I can hold myself together so soon after my father and now this. I cannot go back to the Army. I am sorry I failed you, Allen.

Squashua: I thought about going through the game and making it a readable narrative and I realized B:L is probably going through the game as it plays out and turning it into a full narrative to post at end game b/c that would be easy to do as it goes along. Too much work for me, but
FunkyWaltDogg: is that really something he'd bother doing?
Squashua: DUDE this is B:L we're talking about think about what he's done in the past how much work he puts into things. how much effort for tons of stuff with even the most minimal of payoffs it wouldn't surprise me in the least and I'd think it was awesome I'd have to do a twice-over with an editing eye but I'd get it professionally printed and bound and sent out to everyone.
FunkyWaltDogg: heh
Squashua: : because that would be awesome Let's just say I wouldn't be surprised if he was doing it. but if he didn't do it I wouldn't be disappointed either.

PM to WILDCATNo yellow star b/c you already got one, but you succeeded a LAW check. As Roger is chatting about receipts and taking books and presenting them to Hans, you are reminded that not once, but at least twice the subject came up about not removing items from the grounds. In fact this. You recall Henry handing Hans a note from Maurice. No one read the note except for Maurice. You suspect they included instructions to order him to stop you from removing belongings from the grounds. Your reporter instincts kick in. You believe that if Hans even thinks you're taking something, he'll stop you. And you believe if you present something to Hans openly, he'll stop you AND he'll suspect you every time thereafter of trying to sneak items out, going so far as to confiscate anything. If you want to get anything out of here, the open approach is not going to work.
