Walking back out of the library, Roger made his move to drive out to the Christ Church on Elliot Street. What is with you people and driving everywhere? It's the 1920's in a small town. And you're from Boston, a walking town. You can walk.He had a mind to try and keep it as brief as possible, so he can return in a timely manner to ensure everybody can be transported to the manor. See, it's this sort of thing also. You guys are in a horror game. Splitting up the party is the first big no-no. Always take someone along, if for nothing else, as a witness. A simple, "and he drags along Henry, who is apparently twiddling his thumbs in the corner, drooling," would suffice. YES, YOU CAN HIJACK EACH OTHER IF THE STORY WARRANTS."Sorry for not calling beforehand, Father, but I have some questions to ask of you. Do you know anything about the Dubois Manor near here?" Father Mulcahey is taken aback by the surprise question out of nowhere. "The old Dubois Mansion out on Bert Road? Well, I've been here almost twenty years, and for half that time, no one has lived there to my knowledge except for the housekeepers, a German couple. They mostly keep to themselves. The townsfolk like to play around with the notion that the mansion is haunted, but I would figure it is simply derelict." Roger wasn't getting anything new out of the priest. Maybe a different tactic, "What about the Dubois family? Do you know them?" "Well, before the housekeeprs, Murray Dubois lived there with his mother. When she died, he left town. I wasn't the priest who presided over her burial, but I do believe she was interred in the family plot behind the mansion. The Dubois family had a hand in the town politics before my time; their name's on the library and the art museum now that I think about it. That's about all I can recall offhand. Why do you ask?" Roger hadn't prepared a backstory.

I'm twiddling my thumbs at the aforementioned meeting spot, having walked there after my diner stop. You'll be there for hours, as you said 5 PM to durax and it's currently 2 PM your time. Also, you'll be out of game for quite some time as no one seems to be even moving it along to the house from the 9 : 30 timeline.

But that's not helping the case for Roger. "I'm a friend of the family. There's some affairs of the estate that need to be handled, and I've been asked to help out. I'm working to investigate a few things in regards to the manor." Murray. Does he mean Maurice? Roger felt this was probable, but he couldn't help but ask another question. "Did Murray come to this Church often while he was here?"

"Did Murray come to this Church often while he was here?" The priest shakes his head slowly. "I didn't know the family directly that well, and as I said, there hasn't been a Dubois in town for years. I know there was the son, Murray or was it Maury, the mother, and maybe a grandmother who passed away soon after I arrived in town. There's so many families I work with these days, it's a lot to keep track of."

"I see. Thank you for your time, Father, I'll be on my way."
Roger nodded his head, put on his cap, and left to gather his accomplices. It's nearing time to get to the manor.
His mind still had a couple questions, but the priest either didn't know enough, or didn't want to tell him anything. When did Maurice's mother die? When did he leave?
Talking to the groundskeeper will probably yield better results, Roger thought to himself.

You can go backwards and look at the notes. Many of the posts I make have answers / clues. I'd even go so far as to recommend starting a clue thread as a repository.
You'll probably need it if any of the library researchers among the players decide to share any info once they deem it relevant to the situation.

Sighing to himself Daniel walked down the street pondering the events so far.
It was getting a bit silly asking all these town folks about ghosts or a strangeness in the family. So far the only thing they yielded was Mr. Dubios has a rich family and they establish a few things in town.
I must really be going crazy if i'm falling for this ghost story, most likely a bunch of kids.
Walking back to the Library, Daniel spots David. Shouting "Hey David, lets grab a quick bite to eat and head on out of here!"
David shouted back "I'll tell the guys here! Go grab Roger, he headed down to the church!"
Daniel headed down to the church finding Roger leaving the building. "Hey there Roger, you ready to get out of here?"

Stepping out of the cab, Roger nodded at Daniel.
"Yessir, it's time we get this going. I got all I could out of the priest. Didn't seem to know anything we didn't already. Are the others here, or do I have to go round them up?"

Nice. Here we go.Friday, 10:00 AMMiller put his belongings into the back of the truck and covered it with the tarp. Having noticed the Dubois buildings, the others apparently wanted to do a little background research, something he, himself, could respect, but obviously it wasn't their forte. That is, except for Charles the professor, who apparently found some good reading and was determined to stick it out at the library till the evening. Some of the local folk were questioned, but with not much gained, they'd probably just head on over to the house. Henry eyeballed the smallish cafe. He'd been to better, but the smell of frying eggs set his stomach rumbling. The waitress, Vera (she'd introduced herself), led him over to a square table for four and dragged over another chair. This would be as good a time as any to compare notes, he thought as the others joined him. Charles (Oats), your character can join the other 5 if you wish for this scene, considering it's both a meal and a time to fact-check, but you'll have to stay in town to continue the research, post-meal.An hour later, the meal was over and it was time to set on their way, with David and Roger agreeing to flip a coin later over who'd have to drive back that evening to pick up Charles. Daniel and David climbed into the truck, and the others loaded into the taxi. Friday, 11:15 AMRoger slowed the car down Bert Road, not quite sure if he'd passed the turn. After driving in this manner for some two hundred yards, he spots the entrance and turns left, carefully steering the taxi off the two-lane state road and onto a narrow and rutted trail, barely more than two cars wide, that winds slowly uphill through land shaped by ancient glaciers. The towering oaks and maples form an arch above the road, blocking the sun, and a damp chill settles. The car slows to a crawl as Roger comes to a low spot in the road. Water from a recent rainstorm has formed a muddy pool across the path . The car feels as though it may bottom out as Roger slowly picks his way through pot-holes hidden by the puddle, but then he pulls up onto dry land again. David, following in the truck, is not so lucky. The old Ford catches in the mud, and the slick tires spin ineffectually. Realizing he's left David behind, Roger stops the taxi and everyone gets out, mindful of their surroundings. The woods themselves feel as though they're closing in. Ingenuity comes to the rescue as David pulls down a thin, dead tree branch with a snap, and sticks it under his tire for traction. A few pumps of the gas later, and they're out, and again following the taxi. A long slow bend to the left, and the group comes face to face with the Dubois mansion. Silhouetted darkly against the gray sky, the three-story house crouches behind an iron fence, surrounded by dead and dying trees, the last remnants of paint blasted from its surface years ago by the harsh New Hampshire winters. Its shutters are closed against the outside world and the uninviting path to the front door chokes with scrub. In stark contrast, the white marble statue of an old mariner, complete with ship's wheel and anchor, stands halfway between the old house and the rusting iron fence that surrounds the property. To the right stands a large carriage house of design similar to the mansion, the sag of its roof telling its age. Outside the fence is a small building, made of brick and sturdily constructed. Standing near its front door is an older man, gray-haired and stooped. he peers at you curiously through small, steel-rimmed spectacles.

(Morning. Dubois Museum of Art. Henry, as an avid appreciator of art, is enjoying the experience. He has his disguise on.)HENRY Melanie, my dear, this collection is exquisite! Dubois must've spared no expense in pulling together such a fine gallery. I'm glad that your favorite is the Pennacook Indian collection, because they interested me too. Are there any other collections of their art, or any other information I can find about their culture, perchance? (Henry takes in what information he can, and heads to the nearby Dubois library.)HENRY Cheerio, my good librarian. Say, what information do you have on the Pennacook Indian tribe? I hear they used to inhabit this land and Melanie over at the Museum had enlightened me on how elegant their arts and crafts were. Verily I'd like to learn more, if you please. (Henry takes some time to learn more about the previous inhabitants of the land, but delegates some of the work to poor Charles. After meeting up with the group for a quick breakfast to compare notes, he makes a prompt exit. He is a busy man after all, and he had important matters elsewhere. Such as the local real estate office. His disguise is now back on, after taking it off in the diner.)HENRY Pip pip, where would one estinguished gentleman inquire about purchasing land or property around this fine villa? GIL (NPC) (Clasping his hands together and rubbing them eagerly.) Why, you came to the right place! 'Ol Gil is here to make you a sale! HENRY How gracious of you! Now first, I am a bit worried about property values. I've heard rumors that a certain manor is haunted around here, and I can't imagine such a dreadful thing. What effect has it had on business? I know the manor is not for sale, but as an appraiser what would you have valued it at, had it not had the taint of the haunting? (They chatter a bit before being rudely interrupted.)SONNY (NPC) Hi, I'm the senior realtor. I'll take over from here, Gil. GIL My wife will leave me if I don't start bringing in the green. C'mon, help 'ol Gil out here! HENRY (Takes this opportunity to make his exit.) Well I see you two gentlemen have business to take care of, so I'll be back. (Leaves.) SONNY When the boss hears about how you messed this up, you won't even have a job as a security guard! GIL Oh dear, my wife is gonna kill me! (Henry remembers to check in at the hotel that Ted made reservations at, then makes haste to the Manor, where he is fashionably late but unfashionably forgetting that he's still wearing his disguise.)

Benjamin eased himself out of the taxi and took a long look at the house up ahead. Rolling his shoulders to remove some stiffness, he approached the elderly gentleman and held out his hand. "Good morning. You are Hans, I take it? We are the party that Mister Dubois asked to investigate the house."

Roger takes a quick look in the back of his cab to ensure his passengers didn't make a mess of things. Clarifying that, he then took a look around his cab to ensure there wasn't any noticeable damage that De Palma would notice once he returns. Other than the mud, he figured it was in the same shape as before he left.
"Seemed like you ran into a bit of trouble back there, David! I was worried that would happen. Guess it wasn't much of a problem for you, though."
Roger took a look at the mansion. He figured the groundskeeper would've done a better job keeping things maintained. Turning his head to David, he said in a hushed tone "Yeesh, aside from the Haunting, Maurice made it sound like this place was a real orchid. Hope we don't get gypped."
After that quip, Roger walked towards the rest of the group already introducing themselves to the old man.

Let me know if it's ok for me to fill in the story like this. It's a little obnoxious, but it's fine. I see where you're going with your portion of the pre-house investigation, and I'll address it soon.Yeah, well I gave you ample opportunities and outs in the text for you to interject portions where you might mesh or otherwise interact directly with the group, or maybe share some of the insight you might have gained from your own research (data sent much earlier via PM).
Just realize that even though people are typing in the NOW, it's not like you can't take an earlier post and quote it and add in a missed action or two. Of course, the further from NOW that we get, the less lenient I become on retroactive continuity.

When Dubois mentioned a couple living here taking care of the house, I had thought someone would be looking over the grounds as well." Grudually, he had built Dubois Manor up in his mind to be a towering castle, complete with grotesque gargoyles, hunchbacked butlers, and it's own lightning. When the truck had broken down he had half expected hairy creatures to come storming at them from the all sides. Silly, really. He joined Roger as he headed towards the rest of the group and smiled at the dramatic flourishes of Sir Henry. Fiddling with the cigarette behind his ear, he thought, "This won't be so bad. I've slept in houses that looked worse than this."

The stern gaze of the old man cast a cold pallor over the proceedings. "You will listen to me. You can go anywhere here. Gate will be unlocked during the day." he indicates the front gate of the eight-foot tall fence. "At night, I lock it. If you're inside, yell for me and I," a commotion back at the cottage behind him distracts his speech. A short, grey-haired woman in an equally grey dress with an apron strapped across her ample stomach steps out of the door and walks hastily over, carrying a frying pan in her left hand. She looks up at Hans and yells at him in German.
"wer diese Leute sind? was wünschen sie? Stellen Sie mich vor, varten Schwein." She seems demanding.
"Everyone, this is my wife, Heidi. Heidi, this is everyone. As I was saying, if you need to get out at night, call for me and I will unlock the gate. Mr. Maurice wants me to make sure you do not take anything from the home. I will follow you to and from the gate and I can look in your cars and on your person. Is this understood?"

Withdrawing his hand as he speaks to Hans "Yes Mr. Hans, there is one more in our party. He'll be by later today if that's alright with you."
Daniel turns around to survey the grounds and the house, taking in his surroundings.
A brief commotion occurs causing Daniel to turn around and notice a short, grey-haired woman speaking to the group in another language.
"Yes, we understand Mr. Hans." Daniel returns his gaze to the grounds while asking "Anything we should know about before we go in, any place off limits?" Daniels gaze stops on the statue.
Daniel looks over at Hans "I understand Mr. Dubios had a sea captain for family but for a sea captain who was afraid of some water why would he put up that statue in the pathway?"

Hans walks to the gate, pulls out a key from his pocket, and turns it in the lock. Rusty iron hinges creak and groan as he pulls open the gates. The sharp, pointed finials running across them and the length of the fence, scrape the leaves of the oak trees above. The yard is quite overgrown, with honeysuckle and barberry taking root, and the approach to the mansion seems mostly disused. Everyone enters with Hans for a cursory look-around. Heidi stays back by their house. The carriage house to the right has three sets of double doors in the front, and could serve as a garage for the taxi and truck, which are currently parked outside the gate. Easily visible near the carriage house, the greenhouse's glass panes are coated with dirt and grime, but surprisingly none seem broken. Beyond the greenhouse in the far northeast corner of the yard is a tool shed. Off to the northwest, far back on the property, obscured by a forest of tall weeds and overgrown shrubs is a tall, spire-like monument. Should I be dropping character position avatars on the images and stuff, or do you kids generally "get it"?"Yes, we understand Mr. Hans." Daniel returns his gaze to the grounds while asking "Anything we should know about before we go in, any place off limits?" Hans shakes his head slowly as he gazes around the grounds. "No, just that you are to not take any property from the... property." A small smile creeps over his face as he apparently likes the odd joke he just made. "Also, you are not to cause any damage here." Daniels gaze stops on the statue. The statue is a carved marble figure, standing on a small pedestal, dressed in the traditional gear of a New England mariner. In his hands is clenched a ship's wheel and at his feet rests a ship's anchor. A worn inscription on the pedestal reads: "Our father, Erich Dubois. 1762 - 1848." Daniel looks over at Hans "I understand Mr. Dubios had a sea captain for family but for a sea captain who was afraid of some water why would he put up that statue in the pathway?" He shrugs. "I did not know the family before Mr. Maurice hired me several years ago. I do not know their history. I only know Mr. Maurice does not come by very often. He gave you the keys, yes?" Henry raises up the iron ring of keys Maurice had handed him hours earlier. It is now... Friday, 11:25 AM

More that I'm just pretty useless at following the timeline as to who is where and when, to be honest! Your character is at 11 : 25 AM, standing outside the manor with 4 other player characters, plus Hans. That's it. Simple as that.
If anyone wants to chime in and help explain this a bit better than I'm doing, please feel free so I know what I'm failing to explain. edit: I fucked up and copied the wrong times. See next post.
The only player whose character is out-of-synch is Oats. So just ignore him. Oats is at the in-town library reading a book on the Dubois family history. Interacting with his character is off-limits till at least 1 : 30 PM, depending on in-game circumstances. Best to just not dwell on it.Damn, now I can't lie and try to get an extra set of keys! You can if you perform some retroactive continuity, bub.

OK. I see what happened. When I went back to respond to B:L, I put in a timestamp for his earlier action and failed to put in a later timestamp for the actions that took place later in that post. I then used that incorrect time for the later timestamp. I have fixed both posts.
A timeline has been inserted into the second post of this thread (which was combined with the third post).
I will make sure to continually update it with major actions.
A not-to-be-updated copy of it is here: TIMELINE This will be a brief, continually updated timeline of the campaign events. This will not include events that happened pre-game or the placement of in-game clues. Clue organization is up to the players to handle.

Roger looked outward towards the structure. He couldn't quite make it out, and began walking forward. Pointing towards its direction, he asked Hans "What's that out there?"
He wanted to ask a more direct question, like what he really does here, but that can wait until he goes to pick up the Professor. A difficult interrogation like that isn't Roger's forte.
